Missions and Ministries We Support
Zion seeks to extend its ministry reach through various missionaries and ministries who work within Dallas and around the world. Some of the missions and ministries we support through prayer, financial gifts, and other donations are...
Allison Schlack, Missionary to Kenya with Ndoto
Allison Schlack is the founder of Ndoto, a Christian ministry and sponsorship program for children in Obunga, Kenya. Many people and families from Zion sponsor children through Ndoto. One of Zion's members, Emily Sloan, has traveled to Obunga several times to volunteer with Ndoto. Zion currently sponsors two children through Ndoto and continues to support Allison and Ndoto in prayer.
Lutheran Braille Workers
Zion's facilities include a Braille work room where a volunteer group from Zion, as well as volunteer groups from other Lutheran churches in the Dallas area, create Braille Scriptures and hymnals. These materials are distributed free of charge in more than 120 countries. Learn more about the ministry of Lutheran Braille Workers around the world.
Lutheran Women's Missionary League
Zion has two different Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) groups: the Daylighters and the Moonlighters. Both groups encourage people to make use of mite boxes, a change collection box. Change collected through these boxes is given to various mission efforts around the world. Both of our LWML groups also undertake projects which support mission and outreach efforts in the Dallas community and beyond. Learn more about the LWML and how you can be involved.
Lutheran World Relief Mission Quilts
The Zion Quilters have a long history of supporting the quilt project for Lutheran World Relief. At church they usually work on assembling the tied quilts consisting of back, filler, and pieced tops which have been cut, assembled, and stitched at home. Most of the supplies are donated. The finished quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief the week after Easter plus occasionally given to local charities.
LCMS Disaster Response
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Disaster Response ministry responds to immediate and long-term needs following natural and man-made disasters, and Christian care is offered while working with LCMS districts, congregations, international Lutheran churches and other partners. Zion has contributed financially and partnered with LCMS agencies on relief work trips after disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes. Learn more about LCMS Disaster Response and how you can respond after a disaster.
White Rock Center of Hope
The White Rock Center of Hope is a community coalition of individuals, civic and social organizations, and churches united to provide emergency aid and steps toward self-sufficiency to their neighbors. Their ministry efforts include a food pantry, clothing closet, transportation assistance, financial assistance, and providing school supplies and Christmas toys. Zion has three large, wicker baskets in our Narthex in which we collect food, clothing, and other donations to be given to White Rock Center of Hope. Learn more about how White Rock Center of Hope cares for those in need.
