Classes Taught / Currently Teaching at Zion: Bruce continues to teach middle school (6-8) math and science, 8th grade homeroom, art, drama, and study skills.
Brief Biography: Bruce has been teaching middle school since 1987 and has taught at Zion since 2002. Bruce previously taught at two Lutheran schools in Southern California and one in Iowa. He received his bachelor degree in psychology at UCLA and still has soft spot in his heart for Bruin football and basketball (his freshman year was John Wooden’s last year of coaching). He received both his Lutheran teaching colloquy and master’s degree in education from Concordia University in Irvine, California. He has obtained National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification as a middle school generalist. He was selected by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics to attend the International Conference on Mathematics Education in Tokyo, Japan. He is a QuarkNet Teaching Fellow in Physics and a STAR teacher with UT Southwestern. He is a Siemens Institute STEM Fellow. He is currently a member of the Texas Education Agency Region 10 Science Mentor Teachers Consortium. He has given professional development workshops for educators in both math and science at the national, state and regional level. He was an AFS foreign exchange student to Germany his senior year of high school and still speaks pretty good German. As an internationally certified team handball referee, he has traveled the world to ref tournaments in Europe and South America, including the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg Russia, the Women’s World Championships in Vienna, and the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Bruce enjoys bringing this international experience to the classroom.
