First Year at Zion: 2008

Brief Biography: Jeff was born in Borger, Texas. He moved to Carrollton in 1969 and has lived in the Dallas area ever since. In 1983 he met his wife, a life-long Lutheran, married her in 1986, and joined Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Mr. Thorman earned his BA degree in Business Administration from the University of North Texas in 1985. He worked in the business world for five years before starting his own business and going back to school to be a teacher. In 1992 he earned his teaching certification with a major in math and a gifted and talented endorsement. He accepted an offer to join the Prince of Peace Faculty as a 2nd grade teacher. Mr. Thorman remained in that position until 1995 when he was asked to help start the Prince of Peace middle school. From 1995 to 2008 he served as a middle school math an Bible teacher. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Texas in 2002. 

Mr. Thorman accepted the opportunity to serve as interim Principal of Zion Lutheran School in July of 2008. He was named principal in November 2008. He enjoys the opportunity to interact with all students at Zion. Mr. Thorman desires to partner with and to serve the children, families, teachers and staff of Zion Lutheran Church and School. He has been a Zion member since November 2008. He pursued his Colloquy education in September of 2008 to better equip himself as a life-long learner. He completed his Colloquy in September 2009.  

Mr. Thorman is an active member of the National Elementary School Principal Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Texas Association of Non-Public Schools.

He and his wife Julia have four daughters, Jessica, Jacqueline, Jenna, and Jorey. His daughters have competed in basketball and soccer. He has coached them to a national championship in both basketball and soccer.
